Westfalen Group taps new hydrogen supply partner

VERBUND AG will supply green hydrogen to the company’s Austrian subsidiary to cater to medium-sized firms across Austria and southern Germany.

Westfalen has signed a new hydrogen supply partnership with VERBUND AG, one of Austria's leading energy companies.

The plan is to supply Westfalen Austria with green hydrogen produced by the company starting in 2026. The German energy company plans to use the hydrogen primarily to supply medium-sized companies in Austria and southern Germany.

"The agreement we have now reached with VERBUND underlines our ambition to provide our customers with a comprehensive supply of green hydrogen. Through it, we can enable sustainable progress and play our part in decarbonizing the economy," said Thomas Perkmann, CEO of the Westfalen Group.

VERBUND is one of the largest producers of electricity from hydropower in Europe, generating around 98% of its electricity from renewable sources. As part of the collaboration, the green hydrogen will be produced by VERBUND Green Hydrogen GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
