Dubai to spend millions to boost EV use

The government of Dubai is giving out incentives worth millions of dirhams to drive the use of electric and hybrid vehicles and help protect the environment, reports The National.

Last update:

The incentives from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) include free charging, free assigned parking, exemption from RTA electric vehicle registration and renewal fees, exemption from Salik’s tag fee, and arranging a special sticker for number plates.

Through this support, Dubai envisions to have 42,000 electric vehicles circulating on the emirate streets by 2030.

DEWA is currently working on installing 100 more charging stations to bring the total number to 200 in 2018.

“Under the umbrella of the Supreme Council (of Energy), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is working on implementing the Dubai Green Mobility (which) supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, for Dubai to have the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050, and the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy to cut carbon emissions by 16% by 2021,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and MD&CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
