English Español Spain: Repsol to accept China’s UnionPay at all its sites

Repsol has signed an agreement with UnionPay International (UPI) that allows users of the Chinese payment provider to pay at some 3,500 petrol stations in Spain, reports Europa Press.

Repsol has become the first European fuel retailer to accept Chinese payment method UnionPay at all its sites. UnionPay is the leading bankcard in the world with 7 billion currently in circulation and the most used by Chinese tourist.

With this agreement, Repsol welcomes more than 700,000 tourists from China that visit Spain and the almost 180,000 resident from the Asian country, who can now pay for fuel and other products with UnionPay.

In Europe, around 3 million establishments accept the method of payment – a number bound to grow in the next years.

This is the latest move of a series of initiatives by Repsol to get closer to the Chinese market.
