Germany: Tank & Rast and IONITY to install first ultra-fast charging stations

Some 80 Tank & Rast stations in Germany will be equipped with 350 kW chargers for electric vehicles.

Last update:

Tank & Rast, together with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, the Minister of Transport of Rhineland-Palatinate Volker Wissing and the cooperation partner IONITY have commissioned the most powerful ultra-fast charging stations on German motorways.

The chargers will offer a charging power of up to 350 kW. Brohltal Ost on the A61 is the first German location of the high-power charging network (HPC), which will build IONITY by 2020 at around 400 locations throughout Europe, according to a press release.

With this, Tank & Rast is tackling the second expansion stage of a high-performance charging infrastructure for electric vehicles on German motorways. In the first stage of development, Tank & Rast, together with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and other partners, created the largest connected fast charging network in Germany, designed for charging capacities from 50 kW to 150 kW.

The Autobahn Tank & Rast is the leading provider of catering, retail, hotel and fuel on the highways in Germany. It operates around 360 petrol stations and around 410 service stations.
