NIO has opened a new battery swap station in Harmelen as its fifth location in the Netherlands. The site has been integrated into a Shell service station, offering drivers the chance to swap their used batteries for new ones.

Currently, the company operates a total of 16 locations throughout Europe and aims to grow its network of power swap stations across the region. Besides Harmelen, drivers in the Netherlands can also go to Apeldoorn, Den Hoorn, Tilburg and Utrecht.

A NIO battery swap station is the size of a double garage box and can perform up to 312 swaps per day. The station charges up to 13 batteries with an output of 20 to 80kW, a process that protects the grid and the batteries, without causing spikes in the grid.
