Since August last year, over 1,100 gas stations have been part of the campaign which offers customers meals close to its expiration date at a reduced price.

Last update:

Since its launch in August 2022, over 1,100 company-owned Aral service stations in Germany are already participating in "Too Good To Go". The initiative has recently hit one million surprise bags of surplus food saved from going to waste by selling them at a reduced price.

Customers can buy leftover food in the Too Good To Go app and then pick it up at Aral petrol stations. Outlets of the company’s fuel retail network have been viewed more than 550 million times in the Too Good To Go app.

“We consistently receive very positive feedback and ratings. The average customer rating is 4.6 out of a possible 5 stars, which is certainly also due to the quality of our range. The bags are very popular and usually sell out quickly; we have a sales rate of almost 70%,” said Achim Bothe, Chairman of the Management Board of Aral AG.

Aral offers unsold food from PetitBistros and REWE To Go stores in a surprise bag for €3.50 via the app - filled with three times the value of the goods.

Customers can reserve the bags in advance via the app during a certain period, pay for them and then pick them up at the petrol station. The exact contents of the bags remain a surprise until they are collected - depending on what is left at the end of the day.
