Japan’s record-high demand for LNG unlikely to slow despite nuclear plant restart

The Japanese demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) is likely to remain high even if the government’s plans to restart a nuclear reactor which was recently repaired following tsunami-related damage are carried out as planned, analysts recently told Reuters news agency reporters.

Last update:

The demand for LNG has been lately in Japan getting successive record consumption figures and won’t slow down even with the nuclear plant restart. Other conventional fuels like fuel oil will see their demand declining as Japan once again begins the process of restarting its nuclear reactors.

The reactor to be restarted is one of the three biggest in Japan.

Japan had shut down all its 48 reactors following meltdowns during the March 2011 tsunami causing energy shortages that were met with greater fossil fuels consumption.
