English Español Copec, Walmart Chile sign sustainability partnership

Both companies will implement smart engines to prevent the emission of over 1,600 tons of CO2 per year.

Last update:

Walmart Chile and Copec, through its energy trading subsidiary EMOAC, have sealed an alliance to improve energy systems for air conditioning across the company's supermarkets.

Through the implementation of smart engines, the multinational will reduce by 25% its energy consumption to keep air conditioning systems running inside stores. This will translate into 6.8 GWh per year in savings and a reduction of 1,645 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

The project includes the deployment of 650 Turntide Smart Motor System technology units in 87 stores.

"Large retail companies, such as Walmart Chile, tend to have high energy demands and this technology can effectively reduce operating costs and mitigate environmental impacts," said Leonardo Ljubetic, COPEC's Development Division Manager.

This makes Walmart Chile the first company in Latin America to incorporate this solution. To date, more than 110 engines have been installed in nine supermarkets located in the municipalities of Buin, Peñaflor, Maipú, La Florida, Puente Alto, Vitacura and Huechuraba.
