English Español PDVSA issues statement to say workers reject ‘destabilizing’ actions against Venezuela

Venezuelan state oil PDVSA issued a statement March 12 to say its workers held a protest to reject alleged ‘imperialistic’ actions against the South American country.

Last update:

The protest was held in the “technical-scientific unit installations” in the state of Miranda, it added.

The workers were repeating chants against US President Barack Obama, the statement said.

The statement comes after Obama earlier this month was reported as saying by media that Venezuela was considered a threat and it banned the entry into the US of a list of Venezuelan government officials.

The Venezuelan-US relations are particularly important for Citgo, the Venezuelan-owned, crude oil refining and fuel marketing company.

The press release said that the intention was to destabilize the efforts of the revolutionary government started by the late President Hugo Chavez and continued by current President Nicolas Maduro.

Just over a decade ago Chavez had fired large numbers of PDVSA employees for taking part in a work stoppage aimed at destabilizing his then younger government by boycotting production from the inside. At the time the workers were replaced by others who had friendlier views towards the government.
