Mexico: fuel shortages in central states as teachers in strike block Pemex storage
Some fuel stations in Oaxaca were in early June without fuel and forced to suspend operations because of shortages that were caused by large groups of school teachers who as part of their strike and protests decided to block access of trucks to a Pemex fuel storage plant, Mexican newspaper Reforma reported in early June.
Police forces were planning to clear the road to prevent the spread of fuel shortages within Oaxaca and also in the nearby Puebla state.
According to press reports, Pemex itself advise fuel stations as early as June 1 that it had loaded on that day 36 trucks with diesel and gasoline but that they had not been able to leave the facilities due to the road blockade.
The story was also reproduced by online media Atio. Blockades of roads are common during protest in Latin America.
