The attacks took place on Saturday in Tierra Caliente, a part of Michoacan, but saw nobody injured. Tierra Caliente is a part of Mexico which has recently experienced increased fighting among rival drug cartels, reports Fox News.

Suspects detonated explosives planted in the gasoline and diesel pumps at a gas station in the city of Mugica. They also set off explosives in the convenience store inside the service station.

According to the authorities, another bomb was planted in a nearby hotel, Xcaret Hotel, but failed to explode. The hotel and the service station shared ownership.

Only a kilometre away, the same gunmen bombed another service station and a beer distributing company.

It was not the first time the gas station was attacked, as it had previously been subject to gun fire and an attempt to set it on fire.

The Caballeros Templarios and Jalisco Nueva Generación are the drug cartels who operate the territory, with additional presence from the Viagras and Blancos de Troya gangs.
