Pollution forcing New Delhi to consider full ban on diesel cars
Indian authorities from New Delhi are weighing up the option of putting a partial or total ban on diesel cars driving through the city due to the high levels of pollution, reported The Economic Times.
The Supreme Court agreed yesterday to take into consideration a plea to ban diesel cars from the country´s capital city. A bench will decide if the ban will be a restriction on the number of vehicles, or a total ban such as they did with trucks passing through the city.
"This is very serious issue and we are earning a bad name in world for Delhi being most polluted city," the bench said.
After requesting information and proposals from various governmental bodies and local councils, the bench will be taking a decision on how to alleviate the city´s pollution next Tuesday.
New Delhi suffers from alarming levels of pollution with reports stating it is almost twice as bad as Beijing, China.
