The station, built by CNG Fuels and powered by National Grid, can refill more than 500 Heavy Good Vehicles (HGVs) per day.  One of its major customers is fleet operator Waitrose.

The price of CNG is also cheaper than diesel, according to CNG Fuels director Philip Fjeld.

“Even though the price of diesel and petrol has recently plummeted, the wholesale price of natural gas has also dropped and our customers can still enjoy a pump price of CNG at our Leyland station that is more than 30% cheaper than the equivalent price of one litre of diesel.”

Fjeld added that the use of natural gas also helps in reducing CO2 emissions and if customers also avail of the station’s biomethane (Bio-CNG),  trucks will be running on 100% renewable gas.
