USA: Sheetz confirms move away from fuel sales

Convenience and fuel retailer Sheetz has confirmed it is moving away from the fuel business due to the lack of profit.

Last update:

The person to confirm this was Lou Sheetz, brother of company founder Bob Sheetz, while speaking at the Carlisle Rotary Club this month, reported The Sentinel.

“You don’t make money in the gas business anymore,” Loud Sheetz said. “You do make people come to your parking lot. Gasoline really drives the food and beverage business, which is where your profit is.”

The future of the company will be focusing on the Sheetz ‘convenience restaurant’ that can operate independently from the fuel retailing business.

Sheetz has been investing more and more in the convenience part of its business in recent times. The company has even opened its first full-scale convenience restaurant in the Altoona, hometown of the chain.

The company currently operates over 500 store locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.
