India: BP, Reliance tie up to open gas stations
Oil giant BP plans to open petrol stations in India through a joint venture with conglomerate holding firm Reliance Industries (RIL), reports The Telegraph.
The two companies have been exploring the market, particularly, the retail fuel sector.
BP has secured licenses to build 3,500 fuel outlets while RIL holds licenses for 5,000.
RIL has set up about 1,500 gas stations and looks into building motels, convenience stores, and coffee shops with WiFi. For gas stations located along highways, the company plans to put up resting places and vehicle services.
BP and RIL have been partners in numerous gas exploration and production including their joint venture India Gas Solutions.
