Fuel shortages hit parts of Egypt during Ramadan, Egypt Independent reports

There have been fuel shortages in several regions of Egypt “causing cars to line up at gas stations and clashes to break out between drivers fighting for their turn,” according to a report published on June 20 by Egypt Independent.

According to the report, both diesel and gasoline prices have increased in some areas. This has led to other increases like taxi fares, the report said.

In this context there have been cases of illegally hording fuel to speculate, as reported also by Egypt Independent.

In a region named Qalyubia fuel retailers were arrested for hiding 1.2 million liters of fuel while in Gerga police has seized 4,300 liters of the subsidized 80-octane grade, according to the report.
