Malta: Operators accuse state fuel company of biased treatment

Malta's fuel retailers are up in arms about the latest decision of Enemed, the state-owned fuel importing company, of only distributing the new fuel type to 10 gas stations.

Last update:

Gas station owners feel discriminated by Enemed and are planning to take legal action against the state-owned company, reported Malta Today.

Operators said that  Enemed´s plans to sell the new ‘Super Unleaded Petrol – RON98’ to just 10 gas stations is unfair, as it should supply the fuel to whoever is interested in buying it, according to Carlo Cini, representative of the Petrol Station Owner´s Association.

Enemed Executive Chairman Kevin Chircop told the Malta Independent that the 10 gas stations were part of a pilot program to examine the market´s demand before importing large quantities.

The Mediterranean island has a total of 80 service stations spread across its 120 sq miles of land.
