The city of Cairo welcomed its first integrated multi-energy station in the Abbasiya district, serving natural gas, gasoline and electric charging, reports Ahram Online. The location will be operated by Egypt's state-owned natural gas company GASTEC and Italy’s oil industry ENI.

Cairo’s first station of its kind is part of Egypt’s national plan to expand the use of natural gas as a cost-effective transportation fuel in the country, stated Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El-Molla, during the inauguration.

Egypt is planning to rise the country’s gas natural vehicle filling (GNV) infrastructure from 306 to 1,000 stations by the end of 2021. The goal set represents an increase of Egypt’s GNV retail filling network by more than 200%.

Also, Government’s goal is to transform 450,000 fuel-powered into gas-powered vehicles during the period 2020-2023.
