The retailer will let food stamp recipients use their capabilities for delivery or pickup orders in its stores across the island.

7-Eleven Hawaii will offer customers who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) the option to use their benefits to place SNAP-eligible products for their Vroom Delivery orders. Clients can program a delivery or pickup order for any of the chain’s 65 stores in the island, while benefiting from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service program.

“We are thrilled to accept online Electronic Benefits Transfer payments for customers who utilize our delivery and pickup services. As a result, the everyday favorites from 7-Eleven Hawaii are now more convenient and accessible than ever for our customers statewide,” commented Danielle Takahashi, Assistant Category Manager at 7-Eleven Hawaii.

Both companies have been working on the program for more than a year alongside the Department to align to its regulations, according to the joint press release published by NACS. It’s expected that more retailers join the initiative via the Vroom platform in the coming months thanks to the integration of SNAP into its services.

“This has been the most time intensive project that we have undertaken as a company in the past two years. We decided to dedicate these resources because we believe that this is a necessary addition to our platform for both retailers and their customers who rely on these programs to purchase their food and groceries,” said John Nelson, CEO of Vroom Delivery.

The online SNAP program presents many differences in regards to the in-store SNAP programs. The main distinction is that retailers need a partnership with an e-commerce platform that has been certified by the FNS to apply. In this case, Vroom Delivery is a Chicago-based company founded in 2016 as a full-stack e-commerce solution for convenience stores. Its services enable the operation and management of their own e-commerce and delivery systems for retailers.

“Many food stamp recipients have no access to online, on-demand home delivery options that allow them to utilize their SNAP benefits, and therefore we are proud to be the first to in this industry to launch this service with our partner 7-Eleven Hawaii, as well as with our future participating retailers,” added Nelson.
