Last update:

Brazilian Raízen, a joint venture between Brazilian conglomerate Cosan and Shell, will partner with China’s BYD to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Brazil.

The companies aim to establish a network of 600 Shell Recharge stations across eight Brazilian cities, in an effort to meet expected demand in a rapidly developing market. Over the next three years, the sites will be established in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Salvador and Belémsix.

“Starting this year, a total of 600 new DC chargers will be installed nationwide and an extra 18MW of 100% renewable power will be added to Brazil's grid to support the increasing demand needed to charge EVs,” specified Istvan Kapitany, Global Executive Vice President of Shell Mobility, in a LinkedIn post.

According to Reuters, Raizen has its sights set on operating 25% of the country’s market share for the charging station segment. Recently, its subsidiary Raizen Power acquired the startup’s Tupinamba network of charging points.

Raízen is the licensee of the Shell brand across Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, currently operating a fuel retail network of almost 8,000 service stations.
