Circle K breaks ground on its first NEVI-founded EV charger in Kentucky

The facility is located in the city of Richmond and is the first of 200 expected locations to be deployed across North America by the retailer this year.

The Governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear and the Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt were present at the groundbreaking of the first NEVI EV charging site in the Southeastern U.S., at a Circle K location.

Located in the city of Richmond, the site will welcome E-mobility’s Terra 184 chargers by ABB, which can provide up to 180 kW of power to customers. This equipment is Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliant and meets the NEVI technical minimum standards.

This new Circle K fast charging site in Richmond adds to the brand’s increasing global EV charging footprint, which the company expects to reach 200 sites in North America this year.

“At Circle K, we are committed to providing a full range of mobility solutions that fuel our customers’ journeys, no matter how they power their vehicles, which is why are bringing EV fast charging to key sites across our U.S. network where we can meet growing demand,” said Aaron Smorodin, Head of Business Development for Circle K.

According to a report by Spectrum1News, Kentucky’s program targets adding 40 new fast charging stations by 2025 across interstates and parkways. For this, the state is using $70 million in federal funds from the NEVI program to establish these locations every 50 miles.
