English Español Amazon becomes US’ largest private EV charging operator

Last update:

Amazon has become the largest private electric vehicle (EV) charging operator in the US after installing more than 17,000 chargers across 120 warehouses in over two years.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, the milestone has been achieved by the tech giant thanks to a partnership with EV maker Rivian, from whom it ordered 100,000 custom-built delivery vans. To date, a total of 13,500 have been officially delivered.

Through this initiative, Amazon is confident on eliminating the emissions produced by its last-mile delivery business. Last October, the company confirmed that Rivian-manufactured vans were operating across over 1,800 cities, including Austin, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Seattle.

Delivery firms are also upscaling their efforts to reduce emissions caused by their operations, such as UPS and FedEx expanding their electric fleets and establishing new charging facilities.

Although Amazon has become the largest private EV charging operator in the country, it is still falling short of its sustainable commitments. The company recently had to back away from its vow to make half of all its deliveries with zero carbon pollution by 2030.
