English Español NXT Mobility adds hydrogen refueling at Alkmaar energy hub

The company’s first hydrogen station is scheduled to open after the summer for both heavy-duty and passenger vehicles.

Last update:

NXT's service station at De Boekelermeer business park in Alkmaar, Netherlands, has been expanded with a hydrogen refueling station (HRS). This makes the first HRS of the Dutch provider of sustainable mobility solutions a reality.

In the coming months, the new refueling installation will be extensively tested with its own vehicles. The official opening of the site is scheduled for after the summer, so that all hydrogen-powered vehicles, both trucks and buses (350 bar) and passenger cars (700 bar), will be able to fill up at this location.

Recent figures from BOVAG, the association of fuel retailers in the Netherlands, showed in its latest Tankstation in Cijfers report that only 15 hydrogen locations are operational in the country. The goal of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management is to have at least 50 HRS by 2025.

"Although there are currently over 4,100 filling stations in the Netherlands, the number of places where hydrogen can be refueled is still very limited. The realization of this hydrogen location is therefore an important step, not only for our own NXT concept, but for the entire region. Our goal is to offer a variety of sustainable fuels and energy at our filling stations," said Erik Metselaar, Director at NXT Mobility.

NXT Mobility and sister company GP Groot have signed a covenant with sixty other parties last October to accelerate the development of a hydrogen refueling network across the province of North Holland. H2 produced in the region will eventually be sold at NXT Energy Hub Alkmaar.
