Spain's energy company Repsol plans to install a fast-charging point for electric vehicles every 50 kilometres along Spain's major corridors over the next few years. The company's goal is to reach 1,000 electric charging stations in the country.

Currently, Repsol has more than 300 charging points in Spain in publicly accessible locations, according to the company.

"Our goal is to develop a capillary network with a fast charging point every 50 kilometres on major roads and corridors, and to complement this network with ultra-fast charging points in strategic locations," said Repsol's commercial manager for Electric Mobility, Carlos Bermúdez.

Repsol's electric mobility plan "involves both increasing the number of customers within its associated sphere, which includes the private installations for individuals and companies, and the development of the public charging network", according to the company. To this end, Repsol will rely on its capillary network of more than 3,300 service stations.

Repsol began its journey in the electric mobility sector with the creation in 2010 of Ibil, a company in which it holds a 50% stake alongside the Ente Vasco de la Energía (EVE).
