English Español BayWa inaugurates new LNG station in Germany

The new site marks the company’s twelfth location that offers the alternative fuel to heavy-duty vehicles across the country.

Last update:

BayWa has opened a new Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) station in Germany, expanding its network for heavyduty vehicles up to 12 locations across the country. The new public filling station brings the total number of LNG sites in the Free State of Saxony to six.

In addition, there are plans to expand the new LNG station to include compressed natural gas (CNG). While LNG is used in long-distance transport with its high annual mileage, CNG is primarily used in local and distribution transport.

In both cases, gas-powered trucks are significantly less polluting and quieter than vehicles using conventional fuel - and can also compete with fossil fuels in terms of price.

"In terms of costs, LNG is absolutely competitive with diesel. In addition, many freight forwarders are now required by their customers to reduce CO2 emissions. In this context, sustainability also means that the investment is worthwhile in the long term and that security of supply is guaranteed," said Stefan Tahedl, Managing Director of BayWa Power Liquids GmbH, a subsidiary of BayWa AG.

BayWa aims to supply all of its LNG stations with 100% bio-LNG, a renewable methane fuel variant considered CO2 -neutral.
