English Español Asda signs convenience recognition agreement with Usdaw

The union will represent staffers who work at the convenience stores and Leon restaurants recently acquired from EG Group.

Last update:

Asda has signed a collective bargaining agreement with Usdaw to represent hourly-paid colleagues employed in the convenience stores and Leon restaurants that the retailer recently acquired from EG Group.

The agreement covers Euro Garages and Leon Restaurants and the union will negotiate on pay, hours and holidays annually for hourly-paid colleagues employed across the 356 convenience stores and 77 Leon restaurants acquired in October 2023.

Asda has chosen to partner with Usdaw due to its track record of representing workers in convenience retail. The union already represents colleagues in the 119 locations the company acquired from the Co-op in 2022, as part of an existing recognition agreement.

“As Usdaw already represents the 2,300 colleagues in the convenience stores we acquired from the Co-op Group, it is a natural progression to recognise them as our partner for the sites we have acquired from EG Group,” said Hayley Tatum, Chief People & Corporate Affairs Officer at Asda.

Asda’s existing union agreements with Usdaw in Northern Ireland and the GMB in depots and retail stores remain unchanged.
