English Español EnBW to build 44 new fast-charging points for long-distance traffic

Two more charging parks for EVs in in Irxleben and Dörth are set to be connected to the grid by the summer of 2024.

Last update:

EnBW has started construction work on two more of its fast-charging parks for electric vehicles (EV) in Irxleben (Saxony-Anhalt) and Dörth (Rhineland-Palatinate).

The new sites are due to be connected to the grid as early as summer 2024 and will expand the company’s HyperGrid up to 44 new charging points. With up to 400 kilowatts of power, customers can charge up to 400 kilometers of fresh range with a 15-minute charging stop.

Like the rest of its facilities, these new fast-charging parks will be powered by 100% green electricity, with solar panels installed in the roofs to leverage solar energy.

"The expansion of the nationwide fast-charging infrastructure in Germany is making great strides. This is crucial for the further ramp-up of e-mobility. After all, a fast charging point with high power can supply ten times as many vehicles as a significantly slower normal charging point," said Jürgen Stein, EnBW's Chief Innovation & New Business Officer responsible for e-mobility.

The energy company assumes that 130,000 to 150,000 fast-charging points will cover the demand for public charging infrastructure in Germany by the early 2030s.

EnBW aims to provide around a fifth of these by investing €200 million per year and currently operating a network of over 4,200 fast-charging points.
